Tips for working with a freelance writer:

We'll essentially be "partners" while I'm working on your project. As in any good relationship, communication - good communication - is the key to success. We will need to agree on charges, payment terms and what rights you wish to purchase. But there are other issues as well.

Here are a few tips to make this process easier.

• Give me a deadline as soon as you can, and if it changes, alert me quickly.
• Provide as much information as possible about the project, such as what style of writing you prefer (formal or more casual and conversational), potential sources of information and your goal for the project. (Is it intended to market your idea? To update clients on new services and products? To inspire potential donors?)
• Tell me whether you've got a specific length in mind for your project, whether in number of pages or words.
• Establish with me up-front what the process will be for making changes or additions so that I can complete your project in a timely manner.
• Let me know if other people will be part of the approval process.
